I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING THESE KNIVES FOR A VERY LONG TIME, AND AT ONE TIME HAD A VERY EXTENSIVE COLLECTION.
I HAVE/HAD A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES THAT THE SERIAL NUMBER IS/WAS NOT PRECEDED BY A ZERO-SO I WOULD NOT AUTOMATICALLY ASSUME ANY OF THESE ARE FAKES.
THE MORE ALARMING FAKES I HAVE SEEN LATELY ON EBAY INVOLVE AT LEAST ONE ORANGE HANDLE WHERE THE HANDLE HAD CLEARLY BEEN PAINTED AND THE SERIAL NUMBER WAS IN THE WRONG RANGE FOR AN ORANGE HANDLE.
According to the matrix provided earlier, it should have the same "gray steel grip" that mine has but it certainly does not appear to be the same.
I have seen one other like it where the blade is canted about 1 degree off center. Doug Interestingly enough, my Gerber is serial number 003541 (see pic below).

The Cats tongue handle is a little worn, but it is in great condition.
Further, the texture of the gray part of the grip does not look like mine.
Mine feels relatively smooth to the touch where it appears this knife has about the same, rougher, texture as the black handguard.
